Self-Care Awareness Month – September

There are many awareness days, weeks, and months now but this one in particular caught my eye today. I am having a rough day with catching a cold and worrying about some friends and family who have taken ill. Feeling this down today, I placed some pictures of my beautiful grandchildren near my keyboard. Their smiling faces always cheer me up. So when feeling this way today, Self-Care Awareness Month was worth some investigation.

Caregivers Face Higher Risk of Mental Health Issues

I can see where it is possible that caregivers can face a higher risk of mental health problems. Not only in caregiving roles I have played, but while witnessing others, I have seen the physical and mental exhaustion. When we get to that point and then do not take care of ourselves, we not only face possible mental health issues but other illnesses as well.

Protecting Caregiver Health

Caregiving is increasingly becoming a public health priority. As the number of seniors grows, the need to support their home caregiver will increase as well. With an aging population increasing rapidly and all of the changes in health care, people who are not professional health care providers are providing more caregiving.
