“Caregiving Around the Clock.”

by Deah on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 9:29 AM

As a family caregiver myself, I know what this year’s theme of National Caregiver’s month, “Supercharge Your Caregiving,” is recognizing. It is often a 24 hour, 7 day a week responsibility. Managing meals, transportation to appointments, groceries, bathing, dressing, incontinence issues, financial issues, cleaning the house, and managing medicine and health problems are just some of things we deal with daily. The month of November is set as National Family Caregivers Month to honor the millions of family and friends who give up their personal time to take care of a loved one, often without financial compensation.

Celebrated each November, National Family Caregivers Month is a time set aside to recognize and honor family caregivers across our nation. Family members devote countless hours every day providing care to their loved ones. As Barack Obama declared in 2012, “We recognize and thank the humble heroes who do so much to keep our families and communities strong.”

Every day, over 65 million family caregivers provide more than $375 million of caregiving to their loved ones. These caregivers provide 80% of our country’s long term care services. Since 1994 the National Family Caregivers Association (NFCA) has been celebrating these family caregivers.
