Seniors and Depression

Happy seniorElderly Mental Health

Seniors are particularly vulnerable to depression for a variety of reasons.  One main reason is that depressive symptoms are often triggered by losses and seniors often experience many.  There are losses of their own health or independence and of course, losses related to friends and family members passing away.

If there are mobility issues, it can also be hard to simply find some fun.  See our tips on having fun with your loved one for ideas.

If you are concerned about someone, it is best to get help.  Depression can lead to physical stress and a decline in overall health.  Talk to his or her primary physician if you are concerned about any changes in your loved one's emotional health.
