I'm trying to figure out what our laws are in PA regarding the rule about putting someone into long-term care if they own a home. Is it too late to save the house? Someone told me that basically we would have needed to sell the house a while ago in order for the state to not just take it. Does anyone know where I can find this information?

Try medicare DOT gov- it was very helpful to us when we placed one of our parents in a nursing home. There is a time frame to be able to protect their assets.

We consulted our attorney before making the decision to place dad in a nursing. It seems that everyone has their own version of the laws. We did not want to be in a situation where we had to come up with funds later on. There are specific laws that govern how far back into their finances they can look.

Laws can vary from state to state, so be sure to check for yourself. Your particular situation will be unique in itself regarding the laws. Things chnaged from the time we put grandpa in a home to the time it came to admit grandma.
